Olivia Goodrie
November 29, 1935 – March 15, 2023
Olivia Goodrie, age 87, of
Van, Texas, went peacefully to be with the Lord with her family at her bedside on March 15, 2023. Olivia was born in
Runge, Texas on November 29, 1935, and was raised in McAllen Texas.
She moved to the Panhandle area with her first husband, Victor Rodriguez, where they raised their children. Olivia was known for her good cooking. She became famous for hamburgers at six for a dollar at the Little Diner in Plainview, with business expanding into the Northside Cafe, and finally Olivia's Cafe on Broadway. Some of her favorite childhood memories were of family picking cotton with laughter and stories among parents, aunts, uncles, and cousins.
Olivia loved traveling with the love of her life, her second husband, Charles Goodrie. Together they rode their bicycles round trip 100 miles between Park River and Grand Forks, North Dakota, as well as other types of travels to Canada, Mexico and the U.S. Her limited eyesight never prevented her from living life to the fullest. She gave whole-heartedly of herself to friends and family, and showered her grandchildren with gifts, cookies, and cards that either arrived hand-delivered or by mail.
Olivia was an amazing woman who personified the meaning of JOY. Olivia was full of life, always ready to go, loved talking to people. Everyone that crossed paths with her, loved her. Her favorite color was purple, she loved music and her face lit up when she would see a baby or any kids. Olivia would not want us to be sad but want her family and friends to make each day count and life to its fullest. One of her own crafted quotes was "We did it, we done it, it's done and now we live with the memories,"
Preceding her into eternal rest include her husband Charles Goodrie; sons Victor Rodriguez, Jr., Alfredo Rodriguez, step children: Craig Goodrie, Terry Goodrie, Kevin Goodrie; her parents, Gilberto and Simona Olivarez, and her biological mother, Maria Zavaleta, her Uncle Santos and Aunt Guadalupe (Mama) Zavaleta, who raised her; her brother Eliseo Olivarez, sister Oralia George and siblings Santos, Goya, Elida, Johnny, and Innocencia.
She is survived by: by her children June Azua, Helen Peters (Billy), Oscar Rodriguez, and Richard Rodriguez (Maria), Joyce Sobolik (Fred), and Michael Goodrie; as well as daughter-in-law Patricia Rodriguez; sister Elodia Gonzalez. Also dear to her heart are her grandchild, great-grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren.
