Omarius Devon Gates, 14, affectionately known as Omar, was born in Peoria, IL, on December 17, 2008 to Tyrea Neely and Ishmiel Gates. He passed away on Monday June 26, 2023.
Omar loved playing basketball and football. He loved his xbox. He was constantly sending out cash app requests for money to play his game. Omar was a typical kid. A good kid. Quiet but loved his being around his family. Always listening to music. Omar liked being fresh. From his clothes to his shoes and let’s not forget his cologne. He was such a vibe. Omar would often remind us how sad we would be if anything ever happened to him (He was so right)!
Omar is survived by his mother, Tyrea Neely, father Ishmiel Gates, stepfather Detrick Harris, baby brother Olajuwon (Papa), sisters Jaycee and Morgan Grier, brothers Javion and Kirie Gates, grandmothers Mary Horton and Tanya Pops, grandfather Tyrone Neely, aunt Tyara Neely, special aunt Dollie Neely Peirce, a host of uncles, aunts, cousins and friends and a special cousin Shy-Rea Harris.
He was preceded in death by his great grandmother Erma Jean Neely of Water Valley, MS and Alice Jacobs of Peoria, IL, grandfather Lee Gates Jr of Peoria, IL and Fred Earl Neely of Water Valley, MS.
A visitation will be held on Wednesday July 5, 2023 from 10:00 to 11:00 am at Love & Kindness Ministries (603 W. Nebraska Ave). Funeral Service will begin at 11:00 am. Pastor Marvin Hightower will officiate the service. Burial will follow at Lutheran Cemetery.
