Opal Casteen McCall

Opal Casteen McCall, 80, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, January 4, 2026 after an extended illness. She was born April 18, 1945 in New Castle to Roxie and Margie (Starnes) Marcum.

Casteen was a graduate of Mt. Summit High School Class of 1963. She worked at Henry County Community Hospital for several years. She also worked at Calvary Lots of Tots Daycare and ran a home daycare for many years. Casteen was a member of Whittier Lane Baptist Church and was formerly a member of Grace Baptist Church in Muncie where she taught Sunday school, sang in the choir and was involved in the Living Christmas Tree. Casteen had a deep relationship with the Lord and lived every day to honor him. She loved spending time with her family and friends, especially her grandchildren.

Those left to cherish Casteen's memory are her husband of 62 years, 6 months and 4 days, Steven McCall; three daughters, Michelle Elaine (Mitch) Hammond of Clovis, NM, Kimberly Jo (Darin) Conger of Crown Point and Aimee Renee (Tom) Looper of Pendleton; 13 grandchildren, Tanner Hammonds, Joshua (Ana) Conger, Trevor Conger, Allison (Conner) Miller, Rachel (Simon) Cervantes, Meghan Conger, Ashley Conger, Emilee, Noah, Haylee, Jacob, Ruthee and Natalee Looper; 3 great-grandchildren, Ezra, Reign and Thea Conger; several nieces and nephews; special friends of over 50 years, Elaine Mathews and Gertrude Dellinger.

In addition to her parents Casteen was preceded in death by her brother, Sam Marcum.

Services will be held on Thursday, January 8, 2026 at 2:00 p.m. at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in New Castle with Pastor Doug Keppel and Tom Looper officiating. Burial will follow at South Mound Cemetery, West Lawn Addition. Visitation will be from 12:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. prior to the service. Memorial contributions can be given to The Michael J.
