Born February 13, 1935, in Colquitt County, Opal was the daughter of the late Noah Pascal Autrey and Viola Powers Autrey. She married the late James Louis Medley on October 27, 1951. They were married for 53 years before his death.

She worked on the family farm with James doing everything from cooking meals for the field crews to working in the fields. She always made sure her family knew that she loved them, was thinking about them, and was praying for them.

She was a charter member of Southside Baptist Church. She taught children’s Sunday School for almost thirty years. She coordinated the telephone prayer chain for many years and made sweet tea for countless church socials.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by brothers John Edward Autrey, William Autrey, Nathaniel Autrey, and Marion Autrey; sister, Amber Hurst; granddaughter, Celeste Pope; and grandson, Matt Cox.

She is survived by her children Susan Pope and husband Jesse of Cool Springs, Lewis Medley and wife Zona of Norman Park, Kim Cox and husband Bobby of Ipswich, South Dakota, and Penny Medley of Norman Park; her grandchildren Janna Lane and husband Brent of Moultrie, Brandon Medley and wife Elizabeth of Norman Park, Jami Lyn Warburg and husband Keith of Valdosta, Jay Pope and wife Kristi of Adel, Jolie McDaniel and husband Christopher of Cordele, Jenna Pope and wife Meghan Martinez of Tallahassee, Florida, Josh Cox and wife Dani of Milroy, Minnesota, and Rebecca Cox of Lawrenceville, New Jersey; great-grandchildren Sophie Lane, Braxton Lane, Emi Lou Warburg, Graham Warburg, Jayden Pope, Jameson Pope, Garrison McDaniel, Waverly McDaniel, Lauren Cox, and Ellen Cox; and brother Emory Autrey and wife Jerrie of Meigs.

The family is grateful for the care provided by Donna Gray and Colquitt Regional Hospice.
