Died on Thursday, September 5, 2024, at her residence. Opal was born on October 19, 1930, in Jackson, KY, the daughter of Luther and Viola Spencer. She moved to Detroit, MI, for work at age 18 and then later moved to Battle Creek and resided there. She married Wilgous Smith. They were married over 60 years. He preceded her in death in 2012. Opal was employed at Eaton Manufacturing until her retirement in1983 after 30 years of service. She was a member of the First Church of the Nazarene. She loved taking care of her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She is survived by her children, Leisa (Tim) Clark of Ceresco; grandchildren, Brandon and Ben, great grandchildren, Ethan, Emerson and Ella; sisters, Fay Wood of Nicholasville, KY and Maxine Trent of Jackson, KY; Many nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held 2:00 p.m., Monday, September 9, 2024, at the Richard A. Henry Funeral Home and Cremation Services. Visitation will be held from 1 to 2:00 p.m., prior to the service. Interment will be at Newton Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Centrica Care Hospice or Future Farmers of America (FFA). www.henryfuneralhome.orgĀ
