Orelia J. Williams, affectionately known as “Rita”, passed away peacefully on Thursday, May 1, 2025, at the age of 82. She was a native of New Orleans, LA and a resident of Gretna, LA. Orelia was educated in the New Orleans Public School System. She was employed for over 40 years as a Direct Support Professional. Rita was an active and faithful member of Fifth African Baptist Church, where she served as a Deaconess, Sunday School member and Senior Acting Ministry Leader from 2023-2024. She was also a member of Gretna Senior and Wellness Center. Rita enjoyed traveling, especially cruising, and watching religious programs and old television shows. Her kind and warm spirit and passion for caring for others will be truly missed by all who knew her. Beloved wife of the late Walter Williams. Devoted mother of Curtis Vinnett, Donald, Angelette, Wanda and Michelle Johnson, Debbie (Noel) Scott, and the late Nicole and Gerald Johnson. Loving grandmother of Chakeitha (Paul) Guyton and Denika (Kendrick) Powell. Great grandmother of Brittany Thomas, Da’Jhae, Damone, and Damonte Joseph, and the late Kasey and Centell Clayton. Great great great grandmotherof Logan Thomas. Daughter of the late James and Anna Johnson. Sister of George Cooper and the late Charles, James, Anna Mae, and Gilda Johnson, and Thelma Brazile. Orelia is also survived by a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends. Relatives and friends of the family, also pastors, officers, and members of Fifth African Baptist Church and all neighboring churches are invited to attend the Homegoing Celebration at Fifth African Baptist Church, 3419 South Robertson Street, New Orleans, LA on Friday, May 9, 2025, at 10:00a.m. Pastor Dale J. Sanders, officiating. Visitation will begin at 9:00a.m. until service time at the church. Interment: Providence Memorial Park Cemetery-Metairie, LA.
