Orris Griggs Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Harrell Funeral Home - Dublin on Dec. 4, 2025.
Orris Homer Griggs, 79, of Dublin, Texas, passed away on November 25, 2025. Though born Orris, he was known to nearly everyone simply as Homer-a name he much preferred and one that became synonymous with kindness, loyalty, and quiet strength.

Homer was born on May 14, 1946, in Dallas, Texas, to Charles Nathan Griggs and Anna Vivian Easterling. He attended Woodrow Wilson High School and went on to earn a B.B.A. from North Texas College, now the University of North Texas. He proudly served in the United States Army Reserves.

A true cowboy at heart, Homer had been a horseman for as long as anyone could remember, but it was in the early 1970s that he found his true home in the cutting horse world, where he built lifelong friendships and earned deep admiration. He loved all animals, but none more than his devoted toy chihuahua, Izzy. The two were inseparable, sharing a bond that lasted through Homer's final days. He was also widely recognized within the homing, Roller, and Modena pigeon communities.

Homer is survived by his wife, Carole Griggs, and her children, Cy Bellamy of Kingsley, Pennsylvania, and his wife Jennifer and daughter Shaylee, and Kimberlee Bellamy of Dublin, Texas. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, and several cousins who loved him dearly.

Through the love and devotion, he shared with Carole, he showed and counseled many on what it meant to love deeply and to be loved. His steady presence, gentle wisdom, and unwavering loyalty shaped countless lives.

Homer's legacy lives on in the animals he cared for, the family who cherished him, and the quiet, enduring kindness he left in the hearts of everyone fortunate enough to know him.
