Orville Molling Obituary

Orville Paul Molling

August 6, 1943 - May 20, 2025

With deep love and sadness, we announce the passing of Orville Paul Molling, who entered eternal rest on May 20, 2025, at the age of 81.

Born on August 6, 1943, Orville lived a life marked by integrity, curiosity, and unwavering devotion to his family and work. On October 15, 1966, he married his high school sweetheart, Patricia Rae Molling (Fritsch), his beloved "Honey Bunch", and together they shared 57 wonderful years of marriage. Their bond was one of enduring love, shared joy and deepest commitment to their family.

Orville dedicated over 40 years of his career to Mathy Construction, where he built lasting friendships and earned admiration for his strong work ethic, perseverance, and quiet leadership. His contributions left a lasting impression on colleagues and friends alike.

He was the first in his family to graduate from college, earning bachelor's degrees in business, History, and Art from what was then La Crosse State University "LSU", now the University of Wisconsin–La Crosse. Orville had an insatiable curiosity, especially for history, and remained a lifelong learner, often reading a book a day.

A man of many talents, Orville found joy in woodworking, carving, model ship and plane building, reading, gardening, hunting, fishing, taking the grandkids for rides in his hot rods and even allowing them to drive "legally", and combing the internet for information on anything. He approached each hobby with dedication and precision. For his family and close friends, he created treasured keepsakes - beautifully crafted furniture and professional-grade carvings, each built to his exacting standards. He cherished his time at Deer Camp with the Delong, Thurk and Molling families, duck hunting at "The Shack" with the Kube's, and numerous trips pheasant hunting out to South Dakota with the "boys".

Christmas was Orville's favorite time of year, a season when he expressed his love through thoughtful, often practical, or not so practical, gifts. In the days leading up to Christmas, he embarked on his own holiday delivery route, bringing candy, fruit baskets, ham, wine, and beer to family and friends. Even during his final Christmas, despite declining health, he made sure to complete one last round of giving.

Family meant everything to Orville. He passed down his values of hard work, humility, and generosity to his children and grandchildren. He cherished family gatherings, laughter around the dinner table, and meaningful conversation.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Patricia; and their children, Bill (Melissa) Molling, Paul (Tara) Molling, Joe (Kristen) Molling, Dave (Heather) Molling, Neil (Cortney) Molling, Liz (Brian) Mansky, Adam (Melissa) Aspenson, whom Orville loved as a son.

The family also includes Pastor Scott Skogen, affectionately known as the "6.75th child." Pastor Scott became more than a spiritual guide, he has become a cherished member of the family, offering friendship, wisdom, and comfort.

Orville was a proud grandfather to: Megan (Sam) Dose, Evan (JillAnne) Molling, Kristan (Gavin) Buergi, Taylor Molling, Tristan Molling, Landon Molling, Macy Molling, Abe (Mallory) Molling, Cooper Molling, Tess Molling, Abby Molling, Madi Molling, and Lila Molling.

He is also survived by great-grandchildren: Wrenly Molling, Tucker Molling, and Juniper Dose.

Orville is further survived by his siblings: Kathy DeFlorian, Loren (Corrine) Molling, sisters-in-law Ruth Molling and Loretta Fritsch; as well as many beloved nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his sister, Laveta Molling; brother, Russell Molling Sr.; brothers-in-law, George DeFlorian and Greg Fritsch.

The Molling family extends heartfelt gratitude to the dedicated medical professionals who cared for Orville, especially Drs. Krien, Behn, Zell, and Fitzgerald along with, Shelly Frischmann, Heidi Strainis, and the many clinic and hospital staff at Mayo. Your compassion and care meant the world to Orville and his family.

A private service will be held to honor Orville's life and legacy. Please join the family for a Celebration of Life on Saturday, May 31, 2025, from 4 to 8 p.m., at Drugan's Castle Mound, Holmen, Wis. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly asks that donations be made to North Presbyterian Church La Crosse, Wis. or a charity of your choice in his name.
