A 1957 graduate of Nicholas County High School in Summersville, West Virginia, Monk dedicated 30 years of his professional life to the Duke Energy Corporation. Beyond his career, he was a devoted member of Cedar Spring Baptist Church where he exemplified the hands and feet of Jesus through his unwavering passion for serving others.

Known for his remarkable problem-solving skills and handyman expertise, he generously used his talents to assist others with repairs and projects and never met a problem he was unable to solve. Throughout his retirement, he found joy in collecting lawn mowers and repairing them for people all around Spartanburg County. He was recognized for his selfless contributions by others and received the Caring for the Carolinas award from WSPA as well as being featured in the Stroller Column of the Spartanburg Herald Journal.
Monk is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Sylvia N. Cavendish; son Kent (Allison); beloved grandchildren Caroline, Hudson (Jessica), Lee (Sarah), and Mary-Clark; sister Thelma Jarrett, and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, sister Ezzelle Cooper, and son, Mark Allen Cavendish (Andrea).
