Oscar John Goecker

Oscar J. Goecker, age 92, of Seymour, passed away surrounded by his family at The Lutheran Community Home on Sunday morning, January 7, 2024.
Oscar was born in Dudleytown, IN on April 6, 1931, to the late John H. Goecker and Sophia E. (Thiele) Goecker. He was a 1949 graduate of Shields High School and proudly served his country in the US Army from 1951-1954 in The Korean Conflict and received a Purple Heart for his service. On August 30, 1959, he married the love of his life, Thelma M. (Rust) Goecker, she preceded him in death on April 29, 2020. He graduated from Indiana Business College and worked at Fidelity Federal Savings and Loan and retired from Farm Bureau Co-Op in 1992. He was a Postmaster at the Cortland Post Office from 1998 until 2006. Oscar was a member of Zion Lutheran Church and a former member of The Western Twirlers Square Dance Club. He enjoyed gardening, working in his yard, traveling and square dancing.
Survivors include his daughter, Leah D. Goecker of Seymour; brother, Harold L. Goecker of Seymour; and brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Leon and Linda Seitz, of Seymour.
Oscar was preceded in death by his parents, his wife of over 60 years, Thelma M. Goecker, and one sister, Frieda M. Tape.
Funeral services for Oscar Goecker will be held on Wednesday morning, January 10, 2024, at 11:00AM at Voss and Sons Funeral Service, 316 N. Chestnut St., Seymour, IN 47274. The family will receive guests at the funeral home from 9:00AM until the time of service. Burial will immediately follow at Borchers Lutheran Cemetery in Seymour.
