Oscar Leo Paul Roberge
Biddeford
Oscar Leo Paul (The Meat-man) Roberge, 79, passed away Wednesday, April 23rd, in his sleep.
Oscar (known to many as Paul) was born in Biddeford, on July 12, 1945, the son of Luicien and Yvonne (Nadeau) Roberge. He was the fifth of six children and the first son; he was known for his mischievous and fun loving spirt. He enjoyed watching sports and playing cards with his friends. He was a life-long Boston Red Sox and Cincinnati Bengals fan, although he often admitted that both teams often broke his heart, "but there is always next year."
He went to work early, and had various jobs before he found his calling to be a meat cutter. He worked in the meat rooms for various establishments, including, Edwards Market, First National, Shop N' Save, Lew's Food-liner, Hannaford, and briefly owned Paul's Meat Market, in Biddeford. However, the cold air of the meat rooms took its toll on his body and he was forced to find a new career as a parts delivery drivers for a few different places before retiring from NAPA in 2010.
On September 6, 1965, he wed Helene (Compagna) Roberge. In their nearly 60-year marriage they raised their two sons, Wayne and Scott Roberge.
Over his lifetime he belonged to and spent time with several organizations including The Eagles and the AMVETS. He could often be found there playing cards and laughing with his friends and enjoying their presence. Health issues slowed him down in his final years and he stayed closer to home, but would sometimes take a drive to the beach to watch the power of the ocean.
Oscar is survived by his loving wife, Helene Roberge, his two sons; Wayne Roberge, his wife Joan, and their two daughters Amanda and Sarah Roberge, Scott Roberge and his wife Lisa, and his sister Rachael Labbe.
Oscar will be reunited with many loved ones, he was predeceased by his parents Lucien and Yvonne Roberge, his brother Edger Roberge, his three sisters Dot Childress, Lorinda Legros, and Lucienne Landry, and numerous friends, all of whom he never forgot.
In accordance with his final wishes, there will only be a small graveside service at St. Joseph Cemetery in Biddeford on April 28th 2025, at 11a.m.
