Oscar is his name, but everyone called him Robert or Bob.
Oscar was born September 16, 1941 in Hannibal, Missouri to Oscar R. Rhodes Sr. and Carrie M. Rhodes. He passed away October 13, 2024 in Coos Bay.
Oscar "Bob" attended school in Hannibal, Missouri as a small child. His father was in the military so Bob attended many different schools. He even went to school in England. He served in the US military from 1960 to 1963 and went to many different places. He was stationed in Germany during his service. After finishing his enlistment, he went to work in St. Louis, Missouri at the steel mill. He later returned to his hometown, Hannibal. When he returned to Hannibal, he went to work for Prairie Farms.
Bob married Vandra White in 1967. Together they had daughter, Melissa, born in 1967. Vandra preceded him in death in 1968. After her death, Bob moved out to Oregon to be closer to his parents. He did work in the plywood mill in Gold Beach. He later found his passion driving a logging truck. He loved driving logging trucks and retired after 40-plus years. In 1972, he married Florence Kuskie. They had a daughter, Kathleen, born in 1973 and a son, Oscar III "Bobby" born in 1974. Together they raised their three children.
Bob was a good husband, father and grandfather. He loved everyone dearly. He was a hard worker and worked before sunrise and sometimes after the sunset. He was a good provider and his family meant a lot to him. He was always there for his family and even after his kids were grown; he was a big part of their lives. He would always lend a hand to help or simply check on them, just so that he knew they were doing okay.
Bob helped others when they needed help. He loved the outdoors. He liked to fish and hunt, as well as garden in his hothouse and tinker in his shed.
Bob was a kind person and took things to heart. He was a good man.
All of his family and friends will deeply miss him. He was our rock!
Until we see you in heaven again. We love you!
Bob is survived by his wife, Edith Rhodes of North Bend; daughters, Melissa Hannah of North Bend and Kathleen Ruiz of Coos Bay; son, Oscar Rhodes III of Coos Bay; 6 grandchildren; 3 great-grandchildren with one more on the way; sisters, Patricia Murphy and Mary Jane Birt, both of Brookings; many cousins, nieces and nephews.
Arrangements are under the care of Coos Bay Chapel, 541-267-3131. Friends and family are invited to sign the online guestbook at www.coosbayareafunerals.com
