Oscar John Roberts

Mr. Oscar John Roberts, 72, a resident of Wilkes-Barre's North End neighborhood, passed into eternal life the evening of Friday, September 26, 2025 while in the care of the Geisinger Wyoming Valley Medical Center, following a recent illness.

Born on Thursday, October 2, 1952 in Wilkes-Barre, he was one of three children to the late Oscar J. Sr. and Josephine (Kurowski) Roberts. He was raised in the Roman Catholic faith.

Educated in the city schools, he was a 1970 graduate of the former James M. Coughlin High School, Wilkes-Barre.

Following his formal education, Mr. Roberts proudly served our country during the Viet Nam War with the United States Navy. He earned the rank of Boilerman Fireman Apprentice upon his Honorable Discharge from military duties on June 6, 1975.

Previously, he traveled extensively as part of a carnival troupe, seeing many locations both urban and rural over the years. Due to failing health, he gradually became more and more limited on his physical capabilities; spending much of his time at home with the assistance of his wheelchair.

In his spare time, he previously loved solving jigsaw puzzles and listening to his iPod.

Above all else, he will be missed by his family, especially those who cared for him.

Oscar, in addition to his parents, bid farewell to his sister, Joanne G. Wallace on Christmas Eve 2017.

Left to cherish all the memories they keep of him are his sister, Ms. Regina R. "Dee Dee" Roberts, his caregiver, with whom he resided in North Wilkes-Barre; Several cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.

Per his previous request, funeral services for Mr. Robert will be held privately and at the convenience of his family with no formal visitation. Interment will be in the family lot of Saint Mary's Diocesan Roman Catholic Cemetery, 1594 South Main Street, Hanover Township, where military honors will be accorded by the United States Navy.
