Oscar was born on May 17, 1957, in Camden, South Carolina, to the late Jack and Viola Smith. He graduated from Baron DeKalb High School and received his early religious training at St. Peter United Methodist Church. He remained devoted to his faith and later became a dedicated member of Unity United Methodist Church, where he continued to grow in his relationship with God and service to others.

During high school, Oscar worked as a bus driver and later joined the South Carolina Department of Transportation, where he served faithfully until his retirement in 2013. After retiring, Oscar chose to spend his time enjoying life-exactly the way he knew best.

Oscar was a phenomenal father and grandfather, known for his kindness, quick wit, and unwavering dedication to his family, friends, and community. He was the kind of man who always checked in on loved ones, making sure everyone felt seen and supported. Oscar had a lifelong passion for sports and was a devoted fan of the Carolina Gamecocks. When not on the road around town, you could always find him at home, relaxing with his favorite Westerns.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Jack and Viola Smith; his beloved wife, Sheryl Rogers Smith; and his sister, Virginia Norwood.

Oscar leaves to cherish his memory his loving daughter, Jennifer Massey; grandchildren, Cedric Missouri and Malaysia Massey; his sister, Julia Bracey; brothers, Wiley Smith, Arthur Smith, and John (Vera) Smith; nephews, Timothy (Jennifer) Norwood, Andre Smith, and Tiawan (Hayley) Drakeford; nieces, Evelyn (Leon) Davis, Angela (Rodney) Mitchell, Angela (Odell) Johnson, Toni Bracey, Lachon (Boston) Pearson, and Terri (Quincy) Bennett.

He also leaves behind his devoted friend, Earline (Lena) Laguerre, who held a very special place in his heart, along with a host of cousins, extended family, and cherished friends.

Oscar will be deeply missed, lovingly remembered, and forever honored by all whose lives he touched.
