Christene Smith Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Groveton Funeral Home on Mar. 4, 2026.
With profound love and deep gratitude for a beautiful life lived, the family of Christene Jackson Smith announces her peaceful passing on March 1, 2026, in Huffman, Texas, surrounded by those who cherished her most. Christene was born on May 18, 1928, in Cushing, Texas, to her devoted parents, Coker Jackson and Eva Nell Fenton Jackson, who instilled in her the values of faith, family, and hard work that she carried throughout her remarkable 97 years.
Christene loved life wholeheartedly. Each day she met with energy, spirit, and an unwavering devotion to her family. Providing for her loved ones was not simply a responsibility to her-it was her joy. Family always came first, and she embraced her roles as mother, grandmother, and great grandmother with boundless pride and affection.
She was enthusiastic about cooking, and those who knew her will forever remember the comfort and warmth of her kitchen. Her special pies-made with a touch of love and a dash of tradition-were a delight everyone looked forward to. Christene also found happiness riding horses, digging her hands into the soil of her garden, and dancing whenever the opportunity arose. She had a gift for storytelling, sharing memories and lessons that brought smiles, laughter, and connection to all around her.
Raised in the Baptist church, Christene grew in her faith from an early age. She loved attending services and especially enjoyed teaching Sunday School classes to youth, guiding many young hearts with patience, kindness, and wisdom.
Christene is preceded in death by her parents, Coker and Eva Jackson; the love of her life, JF Mabry; sisters Dot Jackson, Myrtle Jackson, Connie Jackson, and Claudia Jackson; and brothers infant Robert Jackson, Murph Jackson, and Lonnie Jackson.
She leaves behind a legacy of love carried on by her children: daughter Debbie Clark and son Eddie Smith; her grandchildren Wendy Price, Paula Rodriguez, Michael Smith, and Christie Smith; great grandchildren Alizae, Evan, Quinton, Haley, and Hunter; and a host of nieces, nephews, other family members, and dear friends who will forever hold her memory close.
Graveside services for Christene Jackson Smith will be held on Friday, March 6, 2026, at 2:00 PM, at the East Prairie Possumwalk Cemetery in Groveton, Texas. Brother Matt Sharrock will officiate.
Christene's life was a testament to love, resilience, and faith. Her warmth, her laughter, and her generous heart will continue to shine brightly in the lives of all who knew her. May she rest in everlasting peace.
