Thurston Rushing Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Groveton Funeral Home on Feb. 25, 2026.
Thurston Timothy "Timmy" Rushing, 58, of Groveton, Texas, passed away on February 22, 2026, following a sudden heart attack. He was born on February 19, 1968, in New Orleans, Louisiana, to Gale Joyce Taylor and Cleveland Clayton Charles Rushing.
Timmy was a man who loved working with his hands. Gifted with natural talent, he possessed all the skill and creativity of a master carpenter, even though he never chose to pursue it as a career. He found joy in simple, meaningful passions-fishing on quiet days, sketching and painting, and collecting coins that caught his interest. His artistic nature and appreciation for craftsmanship were evident in everything he touched.
Outgoing and warm-hearted, Timmy rarely met a stranger. He loved swapping stories, sharing laughter, and connecting with people from all walks of life. He was a believer in Christ and, alongside his family, attended First United Methodist Church in Mount Enterprise before making his home in Groveton.
Timmy is preceded in death by his father, Cleveland Clayton Charles Rushing.
He is survived by his loving mother, Gale Taylor; his children: son, Timothy Dustin Rushing and wife, April; son, John LuPau, Jr.; son, Thurston "TJ" Rushing; and daughter, Lacy Rushing. He leaves behind his cherished grandchildren: Jordan Lee, Cooper Jackson, Wyatt Lynndale, and Kaylee Rose. He is also survived by his siblings: sister, Elaine Blair; brother, Harold Rushing; brother, Robert Juno and wife, Tabitha; sister, Roslind Barrett and husband, Randy; as well as nieces and nephews: Terrie Evans, Michael Evans and wife, Krystna Bounds, Stormee Stalsby, and Jazmyn Salsby. Timmy will also be remembered by a host of extended family and friends whose lives he touched.
The family will receive visitors on Saturday, February 28, 2026, beginning at 11:00 AM until service time at 1:00 PM at Groveton Funeral Home.
Timmy will be deeply missed, always loved, and forever remembered.
