Stoughton – Oscar “Weed” M. Swenson Jr., age 91, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, May 21, 2024, at Azura Memory Care in Stoughton. He was born April 10, 1933, in Stoughton, WI to the late Oscar and Marie (Offerdahl) Swenson.
Weed served in Germany during the Korean War, contributing his skills and dedication to the military effort during that time. When Weed returned home he met his soulmate, Mary (Culb) Swenson, and they married on August 8, 1959 in Deerfield. They made their home in Stoughton, where they raised their four children together. They were married for an incredible 65 years, sharing a bond that was unbreakable. They had such a deep love for each other that Mary passed away a mere 17 days before Weed.
Weed dedicated many years to building homes as a skilled carpenter, with his passion and craftsmanship evident in every project. During the colder months, he could be found plowing snow, a task he loved. No matter the time of day, Weed never missed a chance to savor a cup of coffee. Known for his strong work ethic and sense of humor, Weed had a knack for telling stories of the past. Above all, he treasured moments spent with his children and grandchildren.
Weed is survived by his children Nona (Jeff) Havey, Randy (Kristen) Swenson, Tammy (John) Harty; daughter-in-law Darcey Swenson; five grandchildren Lacey and Samantha Swenson, Colton (Celeste) Havey, Carly (David Gordy) Havey, Jack Harty; one great granddaughter Brynlee Havey; and other relatives and friends. He is preceded in death by his wife Mary, his son Rick, his parents, as well as 10 brothers and sisters.
A visitation will be held from 4-7 PM on Thursday, May 30, 2024 at CRESS FUNERAL HOME, 206 W Prospect St, Stoughton, WI. A funeral service will be held at 11 AM on Friday, May 31, 2024, at CRESS FUNERAL HOME. A luncheon will follow at the American Legion in Stoughton.
