Otis L. Cypress Sr., born on August 23, 1938, in Poughkeepsie, New York, to the late Nathaniel and Annie Cypress, peacefully entered into rest on Saturday December 21, 2024, at the age of 86, surrounded by his family.
Otis was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 33 years, Sadine E. Cypress, and his sons, Tony Everett and Roland Cypress. He leaves behind a legacy of love, faith, and devotion to his family and his loved ones.
A faithful servant of God, Otis was a dedicated member and Deacon at The Redeemed Church of God for 15 years. He later moved his membership to New Mount Olive Baptist Church in 1993, where he continued his service to the Lord, including his time on the Diaconate Board.
Otis married his wife, Sadine, in 1961, and together they raised a beautiful family. Their union was blessed with six children.
Otis leaves to cherish his memory four children: Crystal Moore (Larry), Otis Cypress Jr. (Angela), Ronald Cypress, and Carolyn Forster; 12 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; four great-great grandchildren, his brother, Aaron Cypress (Beverly); sisters, Linda Foster (Thomas), Fannie Emerson, Faye Powell (Linwood), and Mildred Stokes; along with a host of nieces, nephews, family, and friends.
Otis was also known for his dedicated work ethic. He dedicated over 30 years to Virginia Natural Gas, making valuable contributions to the company until his retirement.
Otis lived a life filled with love, compassion, and unwavering faith. His kind heart and strong devotion to family and God leaves a lasting impact on all who knew him. Though he is no longer with us, his memory will forever live in the hearts of his loved ones. His legacy of love, strength, and faith will continue to guide and inspire us, and we find comfort in knowing that his love will live on through each of us.
Viewing will be held, Thursday, December 26, 2024 from 11:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. at Cooke Bros. Funeral Chapel, 1601-27th Street, Newport News, Va. A homegoing service will be held 10:00 a.m. Friday, December 27,2024 at New Mt. Olive Baptist Church, 66 Big Bethel Road, Hampton, Va. Interment will follow in Hampton Memorial Gardens.

Mr. Cypress use to tell stories of his younger days when he was called Casanova. 51 years ago I met Mr. Cypress a man of character, an example of a family man, a smile and voice that lifted my spirit whenever his presence was in the room. Forever grateful for life examples he set that I learned from even when I didn't know I was being taught. Rest in heaven Mrm Cypress; reunited with your wife in heaven who you adored. Mr. & Mrs. Cypress are some of my fondest child hood memories what amazing children of God. Pamela Smith McNeill your old next door neighbor
