MSG (Ret.) Otis Denham, a devoted husband, veteran, and cherished member of his community, passed away peacefully on March 29, 2026, at the East Alabama Medical Center, with his loving wife by his side. Born on May 11, 1948, in Hickory Flat, Mississippi, Otis lived a life marked by dedication, both to his country and to those he held dear.
Mr. Denham proudly served in the United States Army for twenty-one years, where his courageous service during the Vietnam War earned him the distinguished Bronze Star. After his honorable military career, he continued his commitment to public service as a property disposal officer in Civil Service, before retiring to enjoy the simpler pleasures of life close to home.
A man of quiet strength and warm spirit, Otis found joy in raising miniature cows and tending to his house, activities that reflected his grounded nature and deep connection to the land. Though he completed some college education, his true wisdom was reflected in the way he led his life — with integrity, resilience, and kindness.
Otis is survived by his beloved wife of thirty-seven years, Janet Melanie Denham, who stood faithfully by his side through all chapters of their life together. He also leaves behind a close-knit family: two sisters, Cynda Gurley of Ashland, Mississippi, and Floye Denham of Ashland, Mississippi; two brothers, Alec Denham Jr. and wife Betty of Booneville, Mississippi, and Willard Denham of Oxford, Mississippi. His loyal dog, Sissy, was also a cherished companion who shared in the comfort of his final days.
He was preceded in death by his parents and siblings—two sisters, Patricia Coulard and Clara McMillian, and two brothers, Augustus Denham and Billy Denham—whose memories live on in the hearts of the family.
The family will gather to honor Otis’s life at a graveside service on April 2, 2026, at 12:30 p.m. at Fort Mitchell National Cemetery, located at 553 AL-165 in Fort Mitchell, Alabama with Ricky Ward officiating. This solemn ceremony will reflect a life well-lived, and a man deeply loved.
Otis Denham’s legacy is one of unwavering devotion: to his country, his family, and his home. His enduring spirit will remain a source of inspiration and comfort to all who know him. May he rest in peace.
