HENDERSON, OTTO LEE, JR., Prominent Tampa businessman, passed away on October 11, 2010. Mr. Henderson was a fourth generation Tampan and great grandson of W.B. Henderson, for whom Henderson Blvd. was named. On his maternal side, he was descended from Francisco Garcia, one of Tampa’s earliest Cigar Manufacturers. Mr. Henderson was predeceased by his parents, Otto Lee Henderson and Carmen Garcia Henderson, and his sister, Julia Garcia Henderson. He was born March 18, 1928, graduated from Florida Military Academy in St. Petersburg and graduated from the University of Florida, where he was a member of the Kappa Alpha Order. He served his country as a paratrooper in the 82nd Airborne Division of the U.S. Army. He was a member of the Downtown Tampa Rotary Club and a Paul Harris Fellow, a member of the Merry Makers Club, a former member and president of the Commodore Club, a member of the Tampa Yacht Club, the Palma Ceia Golf and Country Club and Ye Mystic Krewe of Gasparilla. He was in the insurance business for many years as president of Warren-Henderson Insurance Agency and later opened Henderson Insurance and Risk Management Consultants where he represented large corporations and government agencies such as the Tampa Port Authority, the Hillsborough County Aviation Authority, the City of Tampa, Hillsborough County Expressway Authority and many others. During his career he was the recipient of numerous business and civic awards and accolades. He is survived by his two daughters, Julia Clare Henderson of Tampa and Janet Henderson-Little of North Carolina and granddaughter, Henderson Lee Rhoads also of North Carolina. The family appreciates the excellent care provided by Maydel A.L.F. to Otto Henderson and his beloved dog, Bridgett. Memorial Services will be held at Blount & Curry Funeral Home, 605 S. MacDill Ave. on Thursday, October 21, at 11:00 a.m., with a short reception to follow.
