Ove Louis Aaser, 79, McVille, ND, passed away on Saturday, September 6, 2025 at Altru Hospital, Grand Forks, ND.
Ove was born on June 8, 1946 in McVille, ND to Orvin and Laura (Aga) Aaser and grew up on the family farm. He graduated from McVille High School in 1964 before attending Valley City State University. Later that year, he married and welcomed his daughter, Janet.
Ove began his career as a teacher and principal in Nekoma, ND before returning to McVille in 1980, where he became co-owner of Joe’s Bar—a role he held for the next 37 years. He was always ready for a good conversation with anyone who stopped by. Ove also farmed throughout his life, taking pride in the family farm.
Known for his sharp memory, love of history, and ability to connect with anyone, Ove was also recognized by his signature red Ford pickup truck with the “OVE” plates. Ove was “Built Ford Tough!” He shared the later chapters of his life with his devoted partner, Karen Olson. They enjoyed their adventures traveling the country together. When the Green Bay Packers were playing, he could be found cheering from his recliner with a Diet Coke in hand.
Ove is survived by Karen Olson; daughter, Janet (Jon) Nelson; grandchildren, Jade (Alex) Kisch and Jocelyn Tucker; great-grandchild, Kellen Kisch; brother, Paul (Coleen) Aaser; nephew, Randy Aaser; and extended family members, Andrea Olson (Tristan and Kyan); Adria Olson (Chiara, Beckett and Remy Smith); Joshua (Sara) Gruenberg (Kale Gruenberg); Jacob (Karlie Weber) Grandstrand (Bodie); his beloved dog, Leah; and several cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents; niece, Lori Kaml; and loved-one, Erika Gruenberg.
