Owen South Obituary
NISKAYUNA - Deacon Owen Daniel South passed away peacefully, surrounded by the love of his family, on December 22, 2025. He is survived by his beloved wife, Nancy Ann South; and their seven children.
Owen served faithfully as a Catholic Deacon at St. Luke's Church, St. Paul the Apostle Church and St. Helen's Church (now St. Kateri Tekakwitha Church). His faith was central to his life, and he shared it through quiet service, compassion, and a deep commitment to his parish communities. He will be remembered for his kindness, humility, and the care he showed to all who knew him.
Calling hours will be held on Monday, the December 29, 4 to 7 p.m., at Griswold Funeral Home, 1867 State St., Schenectady, N.Y.
The Concelebrated Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Tuesday, the December 30, at 10 a.m., at St. Paul the Apostle Church, 2777 Albany St., Schenectady, with The Most Rev. Bishop Mark O'Connell D.D. as principal celebrant. A full obituary will follow.

Owen was special
We remember all the times we were together at my sister Marie´s annual Christmas parties and dinners before her death 7 years ago. Owen officiated at our daughters wedding
We have been blessed to have known both Owen and Nancy and he will be missed by all who have known him

Owen was my 8th grade reading teacher (84-85). He was invested in every student! A person I will never forget. My condolences on your loss of such an amazing person.

I am Deeply Saddened to hear of Owen's passing. I knew him through his son, Paul and I took an instant shine to him. He was a meticulous person and Greatly influenced those around him by the way he carried himself. I discovered how much he influenced Paul one day while helping him with a project, Paul said to me, "Let the tool do the work." Then he told me how his dad always said that to him growing up. It has become a salutation between Paul and I that I hope to continue and remind us of the Wisdom Of His Father's Words.

I went to school with Marie. I remember Mr. South at Niskayuna High School. Such a kind and gentle soul. So sorry for your loss. He lived a long and beautiful life.

Owen and I shared our three years of formation to the diaconate together. On Sundays our families would come to our Mass. Our hearts go out to Nancy and your family, One by one our classmates are entering into eternal life with our Lord and all the saints. Peace be with you.

My husband Mickey and I knew Owen and his lovely wife Nancy through Our Lady Queen of Peace [OLQP] in Rotterdam. Very kind, thoughtful, and loving people. One thoughtful memory comes to my mind as I write this - to entertain the children, Owen would sometimes play a clown on his bike at the annual Festa at OLQP. Much love and our deepest condolences to Nancy at this sad and painful time.
