Pamela Sommars Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Johnson-Schuller Chapel - Wadena from Jan. 1 to Jan. 4, 2022.
The memorial service celebrating the life Pamela Sommars of Verndale will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, January 14, at the Johnson-Schuller Chapel in Wadena.
A gathering of family and friends will be held at the Johnson-Schuller Chapel on Friday, from 12:30 p.m. until the time of the service.
Surrounded by loved ones, Pamela, age 59, passed away on December 29, 2021, in Wadena, MN, with the tender care of Knute Nelson staff.
Pamela was born to Don and Patricia (Mosbarger) Keen on February 25, 1962, in Deer Trail, CO, and moved with her family to Minnesota when she was 13. In April of 1979, Pam married Craig Cypher and they raised their daughters Heidi and Jamie, and foster daughters, Michelle, Rachael and Rena. Pam and Craig later parted ways. When she married Ken Derby, Pam was blessed with stepdaughters, Lisa, Lanae, and Sonia, along with adopted sons, Kevin, Joe and Bradley. When asked how many kids she had, she jokingly handed the questioner the Verndale High School yearbook! On May 15, 2001, Pam was united in marriage with Larry Sommars in Custer State Park, SD, and they made their home on the family farm in Verndale.
Pam had a big heart and was employed as a personal care assistant for her granddaughter. She had a passion for horses and spent every free minute on horseback. Along with her daughter, Heidi, Pam started the saddle club, "Saddle Up for The Cure" to raise money for people in Minnesota affected by breast cancer.
Preceding Pam in death was her father, Don Keen. Left to mourn the loss of Pam will be her husband, Larry of Verndale; mother, Patricia (Mike) Lofing of Newcastle, WY; mother, Sandy Keen of Wadena and grandmother, Aletha DeYonge of Staples; daughters Heidi (Bradley Espe) Cypher of Verndale and Jamie (Kelly) Lambert of Fargo, ND; grandchildren Shyanne, and Shaydon Cypher, and Evelyn, Daphne, and Zechariah Lambert; siblings Delmar Keen and Demah (Earl) Belden all of Newcastle, WY; many nieces and nephews along with numerous friends.
Honorary urn bearers will be her friends of the Saddle Up for The Cure. Urn bearers will be Bradley Espe, Zack Espe, Lincoln Espe, Hayden Espe, Blaine DeYonge and Danny DeYonge
