Oval Lee "Pan" Higdon, age 75, of Higdon, Alabama, passed away unexpectedly on Monday, July 28, 2025, following a heart attack.
Pan was a devoted family man whose life was centered around his children, grandchildren, and the many people he loved. Known for his generous heart and willingness to help anyone in need, Pan was a loyal friend and steady presence in the lives of many. His love for horses was well-known, but it was his love for his family that truly defined him. He cherished every moment spent with those he cared for and found his greatest joy in being surrounded by them.
He is survived by his children, Ericka Higdon, Tanya (Phillip Smith) Higdon, Wendy Higdon, and Angie (Scotty) McBryar; grandchildren, River (Katie) Bell, Lake Bell, Creek Higdon, Mason Smith, Atlas Smith, Grenlee Adkins, Morgan Higdon, Hallie (Jesse) West, Chevy West, Rayne Higdon, and Blaine McBryar; great-grandchildren, Braylee, Oaklynn, Wylder, Emersyn, Marlee, Zaylee, Sadie, Rylie, Chloe, Makinlee, Indie, Reece, and Chance; siblings, Earlene Pritchett, Dorothy Smith, Leedell Higdon, and Lebron Higdon; child of the heart, Alaina; and many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends who will miss him dearly.
Pan was preceded in death by his loving wife, Freda Chappalear Higdon; his parents, Oval and Gracie Cagle Higdon; and his siblings, Garlton Higdon Sr., Lavita Higdon, Patricia Bryant, Lendon Higdon, and Arthur Tinker.
A funeral service to honor Pan’s life will be held at 2:00 PM ET on Friday, August 1, 2025, at the Bryant Chapel of Moore Funeral Home. He will be laid to rest at Higdon Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Thursday, July 31st from 4:00 PM – 8:00 PM ET, and again on Friday from 11:00 AM until the service hour.
