Pansy Marie Self

Pansy Marie Smith Self, beloved wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother, of Golden Valley, NC passed away at her home Thursday, November 27, 2025 after an extended illness, leaving a void her family cannot fill. Pansy was born in Burke County on December 22, 1938 to Eldon C. and Louise VanDyke Smith. She attended RS Central High School and was employed by The Howard Harrill Decorating Company for over 30 years and at Carpenter Decorating Company for over 10 years. She thoroughly enjoyed making Christmas decorations for towns and malls for everyone to enjoy.

In addition to her parents, Pansy was preceded in death by her son Scotty Clayton Self who passed away in December of 1992. Those left to cherish her memory include her husband of 69 ½ years, Charles Clayton Self. They were married on May 23, 1955. She was the loving mother to Terry Eldon Self and wife Tracy of Golden Valley and also the loving grandmother to Taylor Self Conner and husband Aaron of Forest City and Trenton Clay Self and wife Ashley of Golden Valley; and the loving great grandmother to Grayson Ellis Conner, Charlotte (Charleigh) Anne Self, Sutton Charles Conner and Callahan (Cal) Self. These little ones brought lots of joy to Pansy during her illness.

Funeral services will be conducted 3 Pm Tuesday December 2, 2025 at Fairview Baptist Church on Hwy 226 in Golden Valley, NC. The family will receive friends from 6-8 PM Monday December 1st at Crowe's Mortuary in Rutherfordton, NC.

Pansy was a dedicated member of Fairview Baptist Church for over 70 years. She was most definitely the definition of a True Servant to her community, family and friends.
