Lena Luizzi, 93, passed away peacefully, at her home, in Md., with her daughter by her side. On December 2, 2024, Lena was laid to rest at Pipe Creek Cemetery, 104 South Clear Ridge Road, Union Bridge, Md., near her grandson, Jimmy; and where her daughter will be buried.
Lena was born in Albany, N.Y., daughter of Catherine Spianata and Francesco "Frank" Luizzi Sr. She was predeceased by her cherished and loved grandson, James "Jimmy" Steger Jr.; her mother and father; her siblings, Antoinette Delsignore, Frank Luizzi Jr., Carmen Luizzi, Peter (Carol) Luizzi Sr., and John Luizzi Sr. Lena is survived by her loving daughter, Sandy Brisebois; sister-in-law, Charlene Luizzi; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She began working for the Tobin Packing Co. in 1949, and remained there until its closure in 1982. Lena returned to school and graduated from HVCC, School of Cosmetology, where she obtained her N.Y.S. License in Cosmetology.
Lena was an accomplished bowler in her younger years and even appeared on Howard Tupper's TV Tournament Time. She enjoyed golfing, gardening, reading, word find puzzles, casinos, Saratoga day track, the theatre, and traveling. Lena loved her yearly trips to Aruba with her beloved sister-in-law, Carol Luizzi, family and friends. She was a wonderful cook and enjoyed carrying on the many traditions her mother, "Nanny" passed down.
Lena loved animals and was a devoted dog mom to her precious labradoodle, Darby. She enjoyed living in Md., and her favorite outing involved visiting The National Shrine of Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton and the Basilica in Emmitsburg, Md.
A Memorial Mass will be celebrated on Friday, December 13, at 10 a.m., at Christ Our Light Catholic Church, 1 Maria Drive, Loudonville, N.Y.
