James Leslie Lawson, a dedicated servant of the Lord and beloved family man, passed away on October 13, 2023 in Jackson, Tennessee at the age of 81 years, 6 months, and 10 days.

Born on April 3, 1942, in Crossville, TN, James was the cherished son of Omer Clark and Myrtle Leona Tabor Lawson.

On February 14, 1964, James married Brenda Gale Funderburk, and together they built a beautiful life. Sadly, Brenda preceded him in death on December 5, 2018.

James was a devout pastor for over 50 years and dedicated his life to serving the Church of God Prophecy. He spent his last ministry years at Bethel Springs Church of God Prophecy before retiring. His unwavering commitment to his faith touched the lives of many.

In addition to his role as a pastor, James was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and son of Christ. He was known for his great sense of humor and love for taking walks.

James is survived by his two sons: Michael David Lawson of Dyersburg, TN and Anthony Paul Lawson of Jackson, TN. He also leaves behind a granddaughter, Brittany Nicole Lawson-Stroup from Dyersburg, TN and a great-grandson, Brayden Allan Stroup from Dyersburg;

three brothers, Glenn Lawson and wife Inez of Dalton, GA, Melvin Lawson and wife Retha of Schererville, IN, Philip Lawson and wife Rachel of Sumner GA; two sisters, Loretta Mansfield of Michie TN and Linda Aiken from Walker, LA; and a host of extended family and friends.

In addition to his wife and parents, Mr. Lawson was preceded in death by a grandson, Stephen Michael Keith Lawson; a sister, Willean Smith.

As we mourn the loss of Pastor James L. Lawson, let us celebrate his remarkable life and the impact he made on those around him. May his memory forever be a source of inspiration and may he rest in eternal peace.
