Patricia “Pat” Beckner, 76, passed away peacefully on May 16, 2023. She lived in Roanoke but was a long-time resident of Boones Mill. She was proceeded in death by her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, her parents Ruth and Curtis Thomas; her son Tex Hodges; brother Carlton Thomas; and sister May Thomas.
She is survived by her children, Barbara (Colin) Gee, Paul (Christina) Beckner, Jay (Sherri) Beckner; niece April Tayloe; and nephew Carl Thomas; grandchildren, Josh (Jennifer), Andrew, Kristen, Cheyanne (Craig), Katie (Matthew), Kayla (Sutton), Jordan, and Kaleb (Brooke); seventeen great-grandchildren; and her partner, Ginger Quinn.
Pat was a member of Thrasher Memorial United Methodist Church, proudly graduated from Grace Bible Institute. She also did Clown Ministry at the Rescue Mission Shelter. Pat along with Ginger did missionary work in Guatemala and also in Kenya with Jay, Sherry and Kayla. She also went to Welch, West Virginia with a Roanoke Valley United Methodist group.
Pat loved life, her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren deeply. Her stepmother, Martha, said it best, “she loved people inside and out.” She had a contagious smile, a huge heart, loved to travel and read books with a good cup of coffee. She was also a great listener with a nurturing soul. She grew to love cooking. Pat liked to visit wineries, especially with friends and enjoyed striking up a conversation with other winos too.
Pat loved teaching swimming lessons at Lancelot Sports Complex for over 25 years and water aerobics. She managed Stop In Food Stores in Roanoke, Salem, Wirtz and Boones Mill, Virginia. She also taught at Hollywood School of Beauty and met many longtime friends and she also worked at Roanoke Memorial Hospital.
In lieu of flowers please consider donating to Bees in Kenya where she was known as Bibi (Grandmother) by the children.
