Pat Kerrigan, 73, of Afton, died Tuesday, February 24, 2026, at Greater Regional Health Care in Creston. A Celebration of Life Memorial Service will be at 10:30 AM, Saturday, February 28, 2026, at the Powers Funeral Home in Creston. Pastor John Rutz will officiate. Services will be livestreamed. Burial will be at Greenlawn Cemetery near Afton. Open visitation with family receiving friends will be from 9-10:30 AM, prior to the service at Powers Funeral Home in Creston. A lunch/gathering will be held at Lakeshore Golf & Country Club in Afton following burial. Memorials can be made to the Afton Volunteer Fire and Rescue Department. Patrick James Kerrigan was born March 2, 1952, in
Creston, Ia., to Marjorie Elaine (Huss) Kerrigan and LeRoy James Kerrigan. Pat graduated from East Union High School in 1970. He continued his education at Southwestern Community College followed by Cincinnati College of Mortuary Science graduating in 1973. He began working part time for Stroud Funeral Home in Afton prior to going to Cincinnati.
On July 10, 1971, Pat was united marriage to Sheryl Ann Mitchell at the Holy Spirit Catholic Church in Creston. Following graduation, they settled in Des Moines where he served his internship at Dahlstrom Funeral Home on Northeast Ninth Street. Following his internship Pat moved to Iowa City and worked for Donohue Mortuary as a Funeral Director before returning to Des Moines and working for Iles Funeral Homes at Westover Funeral Home as a Funeral Director. Pat returned to Afton in the early 1980's and began working with his brother Bob farming for forty plus years. Pat and Sheryl later divorced.
On January 25, 2003, Pat was united in marriage to Connie Adams, they settled north of Afton on the farm. Pat has been an active farmer, including raising cattle with his brother, son and grandchildren.
Pat was KSIB's most loyal morning listener and enjoyed the COOP's free coffee every morning for the last 40 years.
Pat is survived by his wife Connie Kerrigan of Afton; son Jeremy (wife Candi) Kerrigan of Afton and daughter Shawn (husband Brent) Boss of Centerton, Ark.; two stepdaughters, Laurie Murphy of
Des Moines, Ia., Mindy (husband Dallas) Roper of Farnhamville, Ia.; a sister, Sandy (husband Steve) Bradley of Oelwein and five grandchildren, Tate, Madeline, Chloe, Bella and Amelia; three step-grandchildren, Linkin, Tripp and Brixton along with a great-grandson, Westyn James Kerrigan coming in July; and his sister-in-law Kristine Kerrigan of Afton; and many other extended family members.
Pat was preceded in death by his parents and his brother Robert.
