Pat McAfee
Amory – Margaret "Pat" McAfee, 81, passed away peacefully on Monday, July 24, 2023 at her residence with her family surrounding her. She was born on July 5, 1942, in the Carolina Community to the late George Brown and Annie Sue Anderson Brown.
Pat grew up in a very large family in the Carolina Community, where she attended school and went to work at a young age. She had an incredible work ethic and was a tireless driven woman who was one of the earliest female owner and operator in Monroe County. She had a thriving business, the Becker Market, which she ran for over twenty nine years. She served her community at her business, saw generations come and go, and she truly was a fixture in Becker. Pat had a larger than life personality with a sassy side due to her wisdom gained through her many years of public work. Pat cared about everybody and did what she could to help others along. She believed in God and was Baptist.
On February 12, 1959, she married the love of her life, Daniel McAfee, and they were blessed with four daughters and a son. She also had a fur baby whom she considered her child and it's name is "Peanut". She loved how her family grew and she was blessed with so many grandchildren and great-grandchildren through the years. Her love of children also was evident in her passion to help kids at St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. In addition to her husband, one of her close friends was Gail Runnels, and they spend a lot of time together eating out and catching up on life.
She was a down to earth who cared about everyone, regardless of their social rank. Some of her favorite words of wisdom were often "I told you so" or "If you can't say something good, don't say anything at all" or "Don't cut your nose off to spite your face." A woman with a great personality, she enjoyed watching rerun comedies such as Matlock, Andy Griffith, and Perry Mason shows. Pat liked to listen to Country, Gospel and Elvis music.
There is no doubt that she is at peace, healed and with her Lord and Savior. Her family has peace knowing she has been reunited with the loved ones she has lost through the years. They are grateful for her legacy of wisdom and love which she instilled in them all. She will be dearly missed.
Pat is survived by her daughters, Darlene York (Tony), Dorsey Community, Shirley Pounders, Amory, and Tina Knight, Amory; her son, Richard Allen Mc Afee (April), Smithville; fifteen grandchildren; twenty three great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandson; one sister; and one brother.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her loving husband, Daniel McAfee; daughter, Mary Elizabeth Lauderdale; grandson, Michael Shane Lauderdale; great-grandchild, Braiden Rooks; son-in-law, Curtis Knight; three brothers; and four sisters.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Wednesday, July 26, 2023 at 10:00 am at E. E. Pickle Funeral Home in Amory, with Bro. Scott Johnson and Bro. Danny Burks officiating. Burial will follow in New Home Cemetery in Itawamba County, MS with Pallbearers being Daniel Dykes, Daniel Mc Afee, George Farris, Matthew Farris, Tyler York, Nick Taylor, Jason Gray, and Chris McCrory. Honorary pallbearers will be her great-grandsons.
