Obituary for Pat Robinson
Bronnie Pat Robinson was born on August 6, 1927, in Denton County to Bronnie Clay Robinson and Mary Ethel Wells Robinson. He arrived before the doctor got to their home. He was the fourth of four children.
In 1944, at age 17, Pat talked his father into signing the papers for him to enter the U.S. Navy. After serving aboard the USS Houston CL 81 and the USS Robert H. Smith DM 23 from California to New York to Japan, he was honorably discharged in August 1946. After FDR died, he watched Eleanor Roosevelt at the christening of the USS Roosevelt, and he was in Times Square during the tickertape parade when VE day was declared. In 1946 when he returned stateside, his ship was anchored off Alcatraz when inmates at the prison held guards hostage in a standoff. He could hear gunfire from the island. In January 1951, he was called up to serve in the Korean Police Action. He served on the USS Edmonds DE 403 in Hawaii, Japan, and Korea until his discharge in 1952.
Pat served on the Sherman and Farmers Branch Police Forces from 1952-56. In 1960 he went to work for IBM in Sherman in 1960 and retired from the Austin plant in 1987. He was a 32nd Degree Mason, Past Master of the Andrew Randell Masonic Lodge from 1965-66, and VFW Post Commander of Post 2772 from 1998-99. He was recently recognized as a Hometown Hero by Rayce Guess. He relished spending time with his buddies, many of them veterans, at the Golden Corral. Pat also loved his many friends at the American Legion in Denison and was known for his quick wit, ability to tell a joke, and amazing dancing skills. His most favorite times were spent with his family on holidays.
Pat was preceded in death by his parents, his brothers Don Robinson, Jack Robinson, and sister Mary Ruth Robinson. He is survived by his children Ron Robinson (Darla) of Crandall, Charles Robinson (Susan) of Richardson, Deb Cates (Patrick) of Dallas, Bronna Cathey (Marble Falls), Myke Minshew (Sherman), and David Dillard (Kellie) of Sherman, seven grandchildren, sixteen great-grandchildren, and one great-great grandchild.
A Celebration of Pat's Life will be held on Monday, October 24, at 2:00 at the American Legion in Denison, 419 W. Crawford Street. In lieu of flowers, please consider sending a donation to Wounded Warriors.
