Mrs. Douglas (Patricia Chester Kersey) Burnley, age 81, of Shreveport, Louisiana passed away on July 9, 2024 from a sudden illness. She was born on July 26, 1942 in Shreveport to Thomas Chester, Sr. and Bernice Taylor Chester. Services for Patricia Burnley will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, July 12, 2024, at Rose-Neath’s Southside Chapel with Pastor Marvin Bartlett and Associate Pastor John Newman of Ford Park Baptist Church officiating. A visitation will be held at 10 a.m. prior to service. Interment will be held at Forest Park East, 3700 St. Vincent Ave. in Shreveport. 

Patricia was a 1960 graduate of Fair Park High School in Shreveport. She enjoyed travelling and visited many interesting places with her family and friends. She also enjoyed singing. For many years she sang in a group, The Gospelaires, with close friends Sam and Margie Procell. She enjoyed many years of friendship with Joyce, Georgia, Irene, Iris, Patsy, Rita, and Donna.

Patricia is survived by her husband, Rev. Douglas Burnley; children, Bruce (Glynda) Kersey and Chris Kersey; as well as her step-children with Douglas, Donna Burnley Cavanaugh (David) and Nell Burnley; grandson, Stephen Stansbury, grandchildren, Kandace Kersey (Paul) Ballard, Wynona (Tommy) Burton, Deadra (Rodger) King, Jessica (John) Robinson; five great-grandchildren, Gage, Kelci, Lee, Gavyn, Ian; two great- great-grandchildren, Pasley and Isaac; cousins, Glenn Rhodes, Bobby, Robby, and Carolyn Chester; nephews, Steven and Timothy Chester; and Aunt Marie Chester.

Patricia was preceded in death by her parents; her younger brother, Thomas “Buddy” Chester, Jr.; and her mother’s four close sisters from Jefferson, TX. 

Honoring Patricia as pallbearers will be Stephen Stansbury, Mike Parker, Mark Chambliss, and Steve Lavery. Serving as honorary pallbearer will be Tommy Thompson. 

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital, or ThinkFirst of the Ark-La-Tex.
