Probably more than any other teacher, this amazing woman helped sculpt me into the person I am today. She not only taught me that reading was fun, but that it could be an act of rebellion. Seeing I was clearly unimpressed with To Kill a Mockingbird, she pulled me aside and handed me Brave New World, and opened my eyes to what reading could look like. Apparently not content to just be my English teacher, she was also my Saturday detention teacher where she would sit me in the English office unsupervised. I remember stealing books to read from there, and I realize now, so many years later, I played right into her hand. Was re-reading this today and thinking about her, which led me to google and here. I'm so sorry to hear of her passing, but, more importantly, I'm grateful for what she brought to the world. I'm sure I wasn't the only troubled youth she steered straight. The world was better for having her.
