In the presence of her loving family, Patricia "Patty" Copeland, 82, departed this world on Friday, October 10, 2025, at her home, following a night of monsoon storms - one of her most cherished Arizona wonders.

Patty was born in Fort Smith, Arkansas on July 1, 1943, the daughter of John and Mary Lane, who preceded her in death.

As part of a military family, growing up Patty called many places home including Japan, Florida, Washington state where she graduated high school, and the Chicago Metro area where she lived the majority of her life. Patty was skilled in language history and grammar, applying that experience throughout her career.

Patty is survived by her husband Dennis whom she met in Chicago; a son Jon (Jodi) Copeland; a daughter Amy Copeland; three beloved grandchildren: Benjamin, Sydney and Owen Chopra; a brother, John (Mary Lynn) Lane; a special "sister" Janice Counts; and nephew Todd Counts.

Patty was a passionate sports fan and loved beauty and nature, often spending time bird watching, crafting, studying local flora and cooking. She was an avid reader, and it was rare to find a day where she wasn't engrossed in a novel. Patty was also a published author and enjoyed writing in multiple genres including romance and mystery. Most of all, Patty loved her family and friends. She treasured receiving photos and videos of her grandchildren and was happiest giving to and doing things for others, taking great joy in hosting parties, family gatherings and dinners.

Everyone who knew Patty experienced her generosity and selflessness. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends.

A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
