Patricia Mary Cox
Danvers, MA. Formerly of Pittsford, NY passed away on August 4, 2025 at age 84. Predeceased by her husband, David Rodney Cox, parents Charles and Cleanthe Criticos, and brother George Criticos.
She is survived by daughters Joanna Sage Burdett (David) of Pittsford, NY, Marjorie Anne Cox of Danvers, MA, and Cynthia Varlan McGrath (Kevin) of Oak Bluffs, MA; grandsons Benjamin and Zachary Burdett, and Connor McGrath; siblings Anne Criticos, Ph.D. of Yonkers, NY, James Criticos (Mary Jo Jepson) of Brighton, NY; many nieces, nephews and cousins. Born in Rochester, NY on December 7, 1940, Patty graduated from Brighton High School in 1958, Pine Manor College in 1960 and SUNY Brockport in 1963. She began her career as an elementary teacher before raising her family.
A devoted community volunteer, she served in Rochester at her church, with Friends of Strong Memorial Hospital, Al Sigl Center, Junior League of Rochester, and Allendale Columbia School, to name a few. After moving to Massachusetts in 1987, she worked for United Cerebral Palsy, Agespan and Disability Resource Center and volunteered at area non-profits. She excelled at fundraising, grant writing, and event planning. She lived by the belief that one should always give back to the community in which they live. Patty will be remembered for her love of the beach, celebrating birthdays with the biggest cakes, and her timeless Talbots style.
The family is deeply grateful for the friendship and constant support of Cheryl Cannon, who was always there in a pinch, and for the compassionate care from Beth Israel Lahey Health at Home, especially Abra Lembo. Patty will be laid to rest at White Haven Memorial Park, Pittsford, NY. A memorial service will be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in her name to Island Autism Group, Inc. P.O. Box 216, West Tisbury, MA 02575 or Lollypop Farm, 99 Victor Road, Fairport, NY 14450, two organizations that are important to her grandsons.
