Patricia "Pat" Anne Dickerman was born on March 30th, 1935 in Albany, New York to parents Beatrice (Barrington) Semple and James Semple. Pat was raised in New Jersey and lived in Florida for 6 months when she was in the 3rd grade.
Soaring to the top 25% of her graduating class, Pat graduated from East Orange High School. After highschool, Pat attended college classes for the New Jersey State Teachers at Newark, New Jersey, focusing on Kindergarten and Primary Curriculum.
Pat was married to her husband, John Dickerman, for almost 40 years before he passed in 1994. They lived in Maryland and Arizona, ultimately deciding to live in California. Pat gave birth to two children; a daughter, Barrie Lee, and a son, David Wayne.
Deciding to further her education, Pat went back to school. She graduated with Honors from California State Fullerton with a BA in Psychology. She also earned a California Life Teacher's Credential and did graduate work in Reading and Counseling.
Pat was employed as a substitute teacher in the Hacienda-La Puente School District and the Lowell Joint District. She was a Primary Grade Teacher for grades K-3 at Fairmont Elementary Public School for 23 years. Pat was awarded Teacher of the Year in 1995 by the North Orange County Exchange.
Extending her passion for education to St. Mark's Lutheran Church, Pat was a Sunday School Teacher, a VBS leader, and a Board member for the St. Mark's Lutheran School. She was also a Substitute Teacher for Kindergarten and 2nd Grade, and a Tutor in Reading, Math, and Social Studies for 13 years for Grades K-5.
Helping those who had lost a spouse, Pat was a Grief Facilitator for 5 years. She facilitated a grief group for children who had lost a parent or a close friend. In addition, Pat has given workshops for teachers on how to help children through grief.
As for hobbies, Pat enjoyed gardening, photography, and art, such as watercolor painting and botanical illustrations. Some other hobbies included theater, traveling, walking, dining out with friends, reading, and writing.
Pat passed away on April 7, 2025 in Hacienda Heights, California. She is survived by her daughter, Barrie Lee Hughes and her husband Scott of Victor Montana; her son, David Wayne Dickerman and his wife Kelly Dickerman; sisters Elaine Oehme and Andrea Twombly; 4 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren.
Services for Patricia Anne Dickermen will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, April 19th, 2025, at the Danish Lutheran Church in Yorba Linda.
