Patricia was born to Lillian and Alexander Donald in Baltimore, Maryland, and attended an all-girls high school there. During her teens, she sang alto and played piano at the Peabody Conservatory, a prestigious music school. She was initially employed at Baltimore Gas and Electric Company, where she met her future husband, Charles R Garrett. After marriage on August 29, 1953, they continued living in Baltimore, where Pat then worked at C&P Telephone Company. They moved to Howard County, where three children were born. She was an active member of Christ Memorial Presbyterian Church, where she participated in the choir and led the Cherub choir. In addition to raising the family, she held positions with various employers, including a realty office in Duck, NC. Pat and Bob moved permanently to Southern Shores, NC, after retirement. Pat became a member of Duck Church and was involved with the Women of the Church. In later life, she enjoyed Silver Link Luncheons at the church.
Pat loved hunting for shells on the beach and riding her bicycle in the community. She played bridge with the "girls," bowled in a league, and volunteered at Nags Head Woods Preserve. She enjoyed cross-stitch embroidery and knitting. After the children left home, Pat enjoyed traveling worldwide with family and friends. She loved God, family, and many longtime friends.
She is survived by her husband of 73 years, her children, Susan Garrett, Gail Garrett Gretch (husband John), Donald Garrett (wife Karla), and their families; grandsons, Brandon, Samuel, and Ben, one granddaughter, Amanda.
A burial will take place on Monday, October 27, 2025, at 12:00 pm, at Parkwood Cemetery in Baltimore, Maryland. A service will be held at Duck Church, Duck, NC, on Monday, November 3, 2025, at 11:00 am.
Donations may be made to Adoration Hospice, Nags Head, NC or Duck Church, Duck, NC.
