Christopher Patrick "Chris" Karpowicz

It is with profound sadness that we share the passing of our beloved son and brother, Christopher Patrick Karpowicz, who left us far too soon at the age of 43.
Born with a brilliant mind and a kind, gentle spirit, Chris brought light and laughter to everyone who knew him. He graduated from Manteo High School in 2000, and went on to attend the University of Chapel Hill, where he received his bachelor's degree in economics, Class of 2004. He later earned his master's degree in finance from East Carolina University.
Chris had a deep love for animals and found great joy in the company of his faithful dog, Winnie. He loved the ocean and found peace at the beach, where he often spent his happiest days. A devoted sports fan, he especially loved cheering on his beloved Tar Heels during basketball season.
Though he faced difficult struggles with depression and alcohol, Chris fought bravely. His story is one of love and humanity- a reminder of how deeply mental health and addiction touch so many lives.
He is survived by his sister, Jennifer Karpowicz Bland (Lamont Bland), his niece, Arya Bland, his mother, Patricia Karpowicz, and his father, Kevin Karpowicz (Karen Karpowicz), and his grandmother, Sandra Anderson, who will forever cherish his memory and the immeasurable love he brought into their lives.
Chris will be remembered for his kindness, humor, intelligence, and the gentle heart that made the world a better place.
A memorial service will be held at Kitty Hawk United Methodist Church on Saturday, November 15, 2025, at 2:00 pm, with a reception to follow at 1729 Bobby Lee Trail, Kill Devil Hills, NC 27948.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to a local animal rescue or to an organization supporting mental health and addiction recovery.
