Gregg Potter Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Seymour Funeral Home and Cremation Service - Goldsboro on Feb. 4, 2026.
Taylor Gregory Potter (Gregg), 78, passed away on Monday, February 2, 2026 surrounded by his family. Gregg was born on August 26th, 1947, in Greene County. He grew up in Goldsboro, NC and spent his childhood helping his family on the farm. He graduated from New Hope High School in 1965. Gregg continued his enthusiasm for learning by furthering his education at East Carolina University, where he obtained a Bachelor of Science in Business Education. Gregg was a lifelong educator who devoted 30 years to teaching across the state of North Carolina, most of his years in Wake and Wayne County schools. He completed his extensive teaching career at his own alma mater, now Eastern Wayne High School.

Gregg was a talented builder and designer in his free time. He was able to design and build his dream home on the family farm, handling every step himself. He often shared his talents by helping neighbors and friends with their own home improvement projects. Gregg also enjoyed gardening, spending time with family and friends, and cheering on the Pirates! He cherished the Barrow Family and he was especially fond of the time he spent with his cousins. He was an avid outdoorsman who loved time spent in nature including chopping firewood and exploring the woods with his nephews and niece.

The family will receive friends on Thursday, February 5, 2026 from 1:00 – 2:00 p.m. at Seymour Funeral Home followed by a service to celebrate Gregg's life at 2:00 p.m. in the chapel with Rev. Danny Ham officiating. Interment will follow at 3:30 p.m. in the Snow Hill Cemetery.

Gregg's surviving family includes his brother, Steve Wells and wife Lori; his nephew, Grayson Wells and wife Abbigail; his nephew, Tanner Wells and fiancé Macaylah; his niece, Leslie Wells; and his maternal aunt, Margaret Sutton. He was preceded in death by his mother, Gladys Barrow Wells, and his stepfather, Leon "Tobe" Wells; and his paternal uncle, Kenneth Grady and wife, Kay.

The family extends their heartfelt appreciation to Goldsboro Rehabilitation and Health Care Center for the compassionate care shown to Gregg, and to the dedicated staff of Kitty Askins Hospice Center of Goldsboro. Your kindness, care, and attentiveness to his needs brought great comfort and are deeply appreciated by the family.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given in Gregg's memory to Kitty Askins Hospice Center, 107 Handley Park Court, Goldsboro, NC 27534.
