I do believe she loved her work as a nurse. She had to love it to get up so early in the morning and go to bed so early at night and for so many years, come rain or shine. She worked at UPMC for 40 years. When she retired, she was head nurse on their heart transplant team, and the surgeon did not want her to retire. Even after she retired, it was hard to get out of that habit of waking up early. She loved to grill outside, and would even do so on the deck in the winter time.

Patti was one of a kind. She was independent, sassy at times, loving, dependable, no-nonsense - all the traits of a really good-hearted person. She loved her family-the whole blended family that we became when Hayes married Paula two years after her mom, Dottie, passed away. She welcomed new step-sisters and their families. She kept in touch with some of the older family members; enjoyed camping when she was younger, liked people in general, loved the beach, loved puzzles and good novels. She was part of a knitting group. She was one of those people that what you see is what you get, and it´s all good. The form doesn't allow room for all I want to say, so I'll break it up.
