Blessed with 99 wonderful years of life, Patricia June Golembeck reunited with family and friends in Heaven on Friday, October 17, 2025.
For several years prior to her death at Memorial Medical Center, Pat resided at Trustwell Senior Living of Springfield. She was known as 'Miss Pat' at the assisted living facility, where she was always smiling, laughing and joking with staff and other residents. She loved batting balloons in the air with pool noodles, listening to people play the piano, and didn't miss a Friday Happy Hour (vodka was her drink of choice). Sometimes Pat passed the time of day away by singing songs from the '40s, remembering & telling stories about the good ole days, and even though she might not remember what she had for breakfast she never missed a word of those Golden Oldies. Pat absolutely loved cats, and even though her live kitties couldn't come live with her at Trustwell, there was plenty of meowing going on with the lifelike motion/sound activated ones that kept her company.
The second to youngest child of Wilburn & Maude Voss, Patricia was born on June 18, 1926 in Decatur, Illinois.
Pat found her true love and at the age of 20 she married Albert Golembeck. She and Al were married in Decatur, Illinois on July 26, 1946, and they shared 73 years of marriage together before Albert's death in December of 2019.
Pat was a stay-at-home mom to their three children (Ed, Sue and Larry) before beginning a career in bookkeeping and then expanding into the field of tax preparation. She worked for several companies before starting her own tax preparation business in later years, finally retiring at the age of 82.
Patricia loved spending time with family and is survived by her three children, Ed (Nancy) Golembeck & Susan Nordsiek, both of Springfield, and Larry (Connie) Golembeck of Petersburg. Grandchildren also surviving her are Scott Golembeck of Gurnee, Illinois, Jeff (Mary) Golembeck of Belvidere, Illinois, and Chad (Mandy) Golembeck of Petersburg, Illinois. In addition, several great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren survive her, as well as several nieces & nephews.
In addition to her husband, preceding her in death were her loving parents, daughter (Nancy), granddaughter (Heather Knudsen), and having lived to the ripe old age of 99, pretty much everyone else in her family (brothers Wilburn, Jr., Harvey & Henry, and Margaret, her only sister), several aunts, uncles & cousins.
Pat's wish was to be cremated, and that has taken place at Ellinger-Kunz Funeral Home. A private graveside service will be held at a later date. Donations to the Central Illinois Food Bank are suggested in lieu of flowers.
To know Pat was to love Pat. She was a stubborn force to be reckoned with at times, and she was determined to reach age 100 but the Good Lord needed her to join Him before that time. She was blessed with a long life, well-lived and she is loved beyond measure by family & friends.
Cremations are accorded by Springfield Cremetery.
