With heavy hearts, we announce the passing at Care One of Concord of Patricia Ann Harris, 84, and a long time resident of Acton. Her loss is deeply mourned by family members. She was the daughter of Frank and Esther Harris who were born and lived in Yarmouth County, Nova Scotia before they relocated to Watertown, Massachusetts, where Pat grew up with two brothers Kent and David, now deceased, and sister Nancy Riley. She leaves numerous nieces and nephews, all of whom were adored by their Great Aunt Pat.
Pat had a long and distinguished career as a much sought after cracker jack secretary for the U.S. Air Force, serving in a Civil Service capacity. In most of her working years, she worked as the Secretary to the Base Commander at Hanscom Air Force Base. She received many formal awards and accolades for her always outstanding job performance. For a number of years away from Hanscom, Pat worked as an Air Force secretary in Weisbaden, Germany, where she had a plethora of adventures traveling through Europe with friends, often packing all into her famous little green VW bug. She considered her time in Germany a highlight of her life.
Beyond Germany, Pat led a rich and full life. A fanatic exerciser, she spent many of her waking hours in motion, walking many miles, swimming, kayaking, canoeing, bird watching, hiking and cross-country skiing.
No doubt topping her list of favorite life experiences after her years in Germany, were the numerous post-retirement summers spent at the family camp KE-DA-PA-NA on Cedar Lake, in Nova Scotia, which was absolute heaven to Pat.
Most of all, Pat will be remembered within her family as a beloved sister and loving aunt, a top notch baker of goodies galore, a maker of Christmas memories, and enthusiastic presence at all family events. She was Indeed cherished.
As per her wishes, a small and informal gathering of family and close friends will be held at a later date to celebrate her life.
If desired, donations should be made to your charity of choice. (She had many favorites!)
