Pat was born in Youngstown, Ohio, in 1943, grew up in Akron, and raised her children with Julian Larson in Worthington, Ohio, while dedicating her lifelong career to helping speech-challenged children in the Columbus and Southwest Licking school districts.
She enjoyed a multitude of interests, including dance - from folk to modern, all forms of textile and needle arts, gardening, concerts, cooking, opera, Elvis, reading, and spending time with family. Her calendar squares overflowed with each day's activities, from classes to cultural events to clubs. Pat's sense of adventure prompted many trips, both with friends and family, as well as purpose-driven: she was a community ambassador to Peru, traveled to Ireland and Poland to expand the horizons of her students, visited Latin America to learn about fabric arts, and studied for a year in Australia.
Among the many organizations that treasured her participation: the First Unitarian Universalist Church and the Friday Hiking Group; two book clubs; Scandinavian Club and Dance Group; Central Ohio Herb Society; League of Women Voters; Columbus Celtic; Perennial Movement Group and Rotary Club.
Her greatest passions were the arts and giving to others, and she loved combining them. In the end, when her smile was all she could give, she gave freely, and one could not resist smiling too.
Pat is survived by her longtime partner, Ken Vail; her children Erik Larson and Alina Larson (Thomas Kraemer); grandson Luke Kraemer; siblings Rebecca Algenio, Laura Mackil, Molly Mackil and David Mackil and many beloved nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents David and Winifred Mackil.

A celebration of Pat's life will be held at the First Unitarian Universalist Church of Columbus, Ohio on Sunday, December 14 at 2pm.
