Patricia McCloskey Obituary

Patricia M. McCloskey
Patricia Moroney McCloskey of Hamden passed away peacefully on Thursday January 4, 2024 surrounded by all her daughters. She was born in Rutherford, NJ on October 10, 1923 to Patrick and Catherine Lind Moroney. She grew up in Cold Spring on Hudson, NY. Following the death of her mother when Patricia was three years old, she was raised by her father in the warmth of the Montrastelle household. The Montrastelles remained her family for the rest of her life. She was blessed to also have extended family nearby - her Moroney cousins were like siblings to her. After graduating from Haldane High School, Pat moved to Brooklyn to live with her cousins and began working for Young & Rubicam in Manhattan. In 1943, she married Henry McCloskey in St. Agatha Church in Brooklyn. They lived in NYC until 1951 when they moved to Hamden, CT with their first three daughters. Four more daughters followed in CT. The family moved to Battis Road in 1952, a great neighborhood where Pat and all her daughters formed lifelong friendships. Pat hosted many coffee klatches, card parties and other social gatherings. She worked for the Hamden Chronicle writing the Hamden Plains neighborhood column where she recorded all the relevant news each week. She also became the Entertainment Editor at the Chronicle, a job that provided her the opportunity to attend and critique all the musicals that previewed at the Shubert Theater prior to opening on Broadway. After their youngest daughter started school Pat returned to work at SNET in the Engineering Department. Again, Pat established friendships for life. She retired in 1994 allowing her time to travel and enjoy her children, grandchildren and friends. She celebrated her 100th birthday in October 2023. Patricia was the loving mother of seven daughters: Lind Remmele (John) of Cheshire, Kathleen Pressman (Louis) of Hamden, Nora Nuclo (Richard), Sheila McCloskey (John Uljens), Maurna Aquila (Thomas) and Megan McCloskey Wall (the late Michael) all of Wallingford. She was predeceased by her husband Henry, their daughter Deirdre McCloskey, and son-in-law Michael Wall. She is also survived by 7 cherished grandchildren: Emily, Michael (Stephanie), John (Mellisa), Caitlin (Mark), Mallory (fiancé Jon), Thomas (Shannon), Sarah and 11 great-grandchildren. As requested by Patricia, all services will be private. In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to: Arthritis Foundation, 1330 West Peachtree Street Suite 100, Atlanta, GA or Dan Cosgrove Animal Shelter, 749 East Main St., Branford, CT 06405.www.siskbrothers.com

I was saddened to hear about Pat's passing. I worked with Pat at SNET on Leeder Hill Drive for many years. She was such a nice and kind person and we had such fun times together. As I am getting older, so many of my SNET friends are gone, but I'm sure they get together often up in heaven. My thoughts are with all of you. Kathy Antonucci
