Patricia J. Mellody of Scranton died Saturday. Her husband, attorney Patrick J. Mellody, preceded her in death.
Born in Carbondale, she was the daughter of the late Stephen G. and Marjorie Baker Lynch. She grew up in Clifford and was a graduate of Mountain View High School. Patricia made Scranton her home as a devoted and loving wife, mother, grandmother and friend. Her loss is felt deeply by all who knew her.
She is survived by her five children, Patrick Mellody and wife, Anna Palmer, of Washington, D.C.; Kathleen Mellody, of Arlington, Va.; Mara Grad and husband, Joseph, of South Abington Twp.; Stephen Mellody, of Arlington, Va.; and Meredith Mellody and husband, Ian McNutt, of Takoma Park, Md.; and five grandchildren, Joseph, Margot and Jane Grad, and Rory and Nolan McNutt.
She is also survived by two sisters, Carolyn Harhut (Chet), of Greenfield Twp.; and Bonnie Tolerico (Jim), of Nicholson; and a brother, Stephen Lynch, of San Diego, Calif.; brothers-in-law, Charles Mellody, of Bethesda, Md.; Jerome Mellody (Mary Ann), of Rockville, Md.; and sisters-in-law, Mary Horan (Thomas), Fort Lauderdale, Fla.; and Ellen Mellody, of Scranton; and several nieces and nephews.
She was also preceded in death by her father-in-law (Patrick J. Mellody), mother-in-law (Rita LeStrange Mellody); a brother-in-law, James F. Mellody; and nephew, Stephen Lynch.
After raising her five children, Patricia worked for the Lackawanna County court system, including for the Honorable Judge Trish Corbett. Prior to marriage, she worked at the International Salt Company. She was a longtime, devoted member of St. Clare's Parish, Scranton, and could always be found in "her seat."
Family and friends may call Thursday, Aug. 26, from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Albert P. O'Donnell Funeral Home, 2025 Green Ridge St., Dunmore. The Mass of Christian Burial will be on Friday, Aug. 27, at 10 a.m. at St. Clare's Church, 2301 N. Washington Ave. The interment will be at Cathedral Cemetery. All those attending the funeral should proceed directly to the church on the morning of the funeral Mass.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Scranton Area Foundation, care of the Patrick J. Mellody Memorial Fund. Family requests masks be worn by all those attending the viewing and funeral Mass.
