Patricia Joyce Middeke (Hall) ObituaryPatricia Joyce Middeke died on the morning of February 8. Known as Pat to her friends, PJ to her husband and as "hey you" to her kids, Pat lived a life full of love and caring for God's creation and her fellow human beings.
Pat was born in St. Louis Missouri on May 21, 1948, to her parents John and Doris Hall and lived in the St Louis area throughout her childhood. She met her beloved husband, Bill Middeke, while at Jefferson County Community College when she needed a light for her Bunsen burner. Bill lit her fire and the flame between their hearts started. The two were married on December 4, 1971, in Otto, Missouri and after three years in Biloxi, Mississippi, the two returned to the St Louis area where they had their three children.
The family moved to Eden Prairie Minnesota in 1994 where Pat and Bill have lived ever since. Pat was actively involved in the life of her church at Immanuel Lutheran serving with the quilting group, participating in their faith group, funeral lunches, prayer shawls and all the other ways she was one of the church ladies. She also was active in the MN Climate Change Lobby advocating for changes in laws to help protect the environment as well as educating people on small changes they can make that are better for the planet. She also found great joy in teaching English as a second language at Hennepin Tech and deeply missed her students over the past few months as medical issues kept her out of the classroom.
Pat started her working life as a pharmacist at drug stores in Mississippi and at Missouri Baptist Hospital. Later she transferred those skills to the lab at Integris in Chanhassen MN but, continued to maintain her pharmacy license for 50+ years.
Pat's example to be an active citizen in your community has been embraced by many people she loved and who loved her, including her children and children-in-law; Melissa and Marc Karger (Blaine, MN), Bill and Kari Middeke (Mound, MN) and Becca and Bob Middeke-Conlin (Tulsa OK and Jena Germany). However, the love of her life was her grandson Jayden Karger.
Pat's services will be at Immanuel Lutheran Church (16515 Luther Way, Eden Prairie) on Wednesday, February 19. Visitation will begin at 11am with the service at noon followed by a luncheon. Please feel free to bring stitching or play on your phone if you would like Pat to haunt you but wear red to celebrate the Holy Spirit. The service will also be live streamed at immanuel.us Door prizes will be given away.
In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be sent to Minnesota Public Radio (mpr.org) and Twin Cities PBS (tpt.org).
