Patricia Pirkl Obituary

Patricia Anne (Pat) Pirkl of Tiffin passed away peacefully Friday, January 24, 2025, at Legacy in Iowa City under the care of Hospice of Iowa City one day before her 87th birthday with complications from a severe stroke. Patricia was born on January 25, 1938, to Edward (EDD) and Alice (Smith) Kabela. Pat graduated from City High and then met Donald (Don) Pirkl. A case where city girl meets farm boy. They got married on June 12, 1956. After marriage they started farming and started their own business P&D Repair before stating a family. They lived on the same place in the same house for over 62 years. Pat was a devoted wife, mother and very outgoing. She always wanted to know who you were, your family background, etc. Her gift was once she met you she could remember your name, where you met, even if she had not seen you in a long time and only met you the one time. Pat loved to play cards, talk with people, and go camping. But her favorite thing to do was driving around the farm on her Gator picking up small branches and burning them in the burn pile. She was a very strong and independent woman, who would speak her mind and tell you like it is. Once you met her, she was hard to forget as she had a heart of gold and always showed respect and friendship to whomever she met. Pat survived stomach cancer, West Nile virus, Myasthenia, Covid, even a stroke a year ago, and who knows what else. You were not going to take her out without a fight! Pat's family includes her daughter, Christine Land and her husband, Clayton; grandchildren Jordan and Anne Land; Pat's son, Edward (EDD) Pirkl; granddaughters, Amber Vandenbosch and husband, Lucas; great-granddaughter, Aria; granddaughter, Brittney Pirkl and her fiancé, Carl Grosvenor; great-granddaughter, Kinsley; Pat's son, Gary Pirkl; sister, Marilyn Jensen; as well as nieces and nephews. She will be missed dearly by her family and friends. Pat was preceded in death by her mother, Alice\; her father, Edward, stepfather, Burt Wieneke; husband, Donald; daughter, Connie Sue; daughter-in-law, Leslie Pirkl; sister, Betty Sedlacek, and her best friend Lucy Bowers. Funeral services will be held at 1 pm Thursday, January 30, 2025, at Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service in Iowa City, with burial to follow at the Oak Hill Cemetery in Tiffin. Visitation will be from 11 am until service time at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers a memorial fund has been established in Pat's memory to support causes important to Pat.
