Patricia Shearer La May Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Sep. 21, 2025.
Pat La May passed away on September 4, 2025. Pat was born in Santa Monica, California on March 12, 1940 to parents Lowell G. Shearer and Mary Jo (Brown) Shearer. She was the oldest of two siblings.

Patty, as she was known in her teenage years, and the Shearer family moved from Santa Monica to Tulsa, Oklahoma, while her father was employed with Douglas Aircraft. In 1946 the Shearer family returned to Steamboat Springs, Colorado where Pat spent most of her formative years. Pat graduated from Steamboat Spring High School in 1958 and attended two years of college at Loretta Heights College in Denver Colorado. Pat was introduced to Ted La May in Steamboat Springs where the two wed on June 4, 1960. They remained married for 61 years.

Pat gave her time willingly and always opened her home to friends, family, Colorado Trail volunteers, fellow P.E.O. International members, and other wandering souls.

Pat is survived by her four children Karen, Diane, Keith and Chris, son in-law Russ Dubiel, daughter in-law Cathy (Mueller) La May, four adoring grandchildren Lindsey, Siena, Ryan and Loghan. She was preceded in death by her loving husband Ted La May, and sister Karen Kerlin.

Pat will be remembered for her gentle heart and warm smile. She loved most activities that took her outside, including gardening, hiking, and skiing. She was a bit of a social butterfly, and loved a good game of bridge. Pat had a strong faith and attended mass regularly at St. Columba Catholic Church. Pat requested that in lieu of flowers you make a donation to the St. Columba Parish Living Stones Capital Campaign or the Colorado Trail Foundation. Services for Pat will be held at St. Columba Church in Durango on Saturday, October 11 at 10:00 AM.
