Patricia Sternquist Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Schroeder-Stark-Welin Funeral Home - Boone on Nov. 11, 2025.
Patricia Sternquist, 88, of Mason City, Iowa, passed away at the IOOF Home in Mason City, Iowa, on Wednesday, November 5, 2025. She had been a resident of the IOOF Home since July 2025.
She was born on February 13, 1937, in Boone, Iowa, the daughter of Robert and Hattie (Parish) Rinehart. On April 19, 1956, Patricia married Leonard Sternquist at the First United Methodist Church in Boone. She was a graduate of Boone High School and the DMACC Nursing Program. Patricia worked as a nurse's aide after graduating until the children were born, then worked as a stay-at-home mom for several years. She then returned to nursing and worked as a school nurse and with students with disabilities.
She was a member of the First United Methodist Church, where she taught Sunday School together with Leonard for many years. She was involved in the PTA at Bryant School in Boone and served as the Camp Fire Girls troop leader for her daughter, Susan's troop, for many years. Patricia and Leonard fell in love with Ballroom dancing while taking lessons with their daughter, Susan, and her soon-to-be husband, Scott, before their wedding in 1981. They went on to teach, compete, and enjoy the international style of Ballroom Dance for many years.
Patricia was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Leonard; her daughter, Anne Marie; her sister, Janice; and her parents, Robert and Hattie Rinehart.
Patricia is lovingly remembered by her daughters, Susan (Scott) Moorman, and Laura Sternquist; grandchildren: Justin (Amanda), Parker (Elisa), Connor (Anne), Brittany (Kerry), Blake (Alyssa), Alyssa and Taya; 15 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; sisters: Joleen, Joanne and Jackie; and brothers, Bob and Marty.
Patricia lived with happiness, kindness, and grace. She adored spending time with her family and will be remembered for her amazing cooking and baking, as well as for her crafts and the fun old-fashioned games she always had ready for her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She will be dearly, dearly missed.
A family Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
