Barbourville, Ky. – Patrick, "Pat", Dean Alford, age 56, of
Barbourville, Kentucky, departed this life on Sunday, December 21, 2025, in Corbin, Kentucky. He was born on January 14, 1969, in Barbourville to Beverly Ray and Linda Kay Alford. Pat attended Barbourville City School. After completing his education, his focus shifted to a life dedicated to family, friends and keeping fellow community members safe.
Pat started his career as a dispatcher at Barbourville Police Department, quickly working his way up to Police Officer during his 11 years of service there. Over the next 5 years, Pat worked as a Public Safety Officer at the Bluegrass Airport. He then joined the Kentucky State Police, working as an arson investigator for 14 years before retiring. Three and a half years ago, Pat returned to work for the Knox County Sheriff's Department as a School Resource Officer, serving Lynn Camp Middle and High Schools. Pat's contributions to his community were endless.
Pat is survived by his fiancée, Shannon, his son Evan and wife Lauren, his daughter Madison and husband Nate, his son Johnathan, his daughters Kenleigh, Jordan, and Bella, his sister Lea Ann and husband Tim, and his sister Jacie and husband Jeremy. He is also survived by cherished grandchildren Patrick James, who is due in February, Talitha, Zane, Zayd, and Ada Kaye, nieces Katie, Dana, Becca, Rhegan, Raylea, Loren, Olivia, Bella, and Livy, nephews Lincoln, Liam, Lennox, and Lane, and a host of other relatives and friends. Pat was preceded in death by his father Bev and mother, Linda.
Pat was passionate about his career but loved nothing more than his family. His grandchildren were the center of his life and his greatest source of joy. He showed his love through his constant presence, support, and unwavering dedication, always putting those he cared for first. His love and loyalty will continue to be felt and remembered by all who were fortunate enough to be part of his life.
The Alford family will receive friends at Hopper Funeral Home Saturday, December 27, 2025 from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM and Sunday, December 28, 2025 from 11:00 AM until the funeral hour of 12:00 PM. Reverend Roger Alford will officiate, assisted by Jacie Gambrel. Interment will follow the funeral service in the Patterson Cemetery at Heidrick, Kentucky. Casket Bearers are Evan Alford, Michael Votolato, Kenton Jones, Joe Mahan, Jarrod Portwood, and Jeremy Gambrel. Honorary Casket Bearers are dedicated officers and staff members from the Knox County Sheriff's Department and dedicated staff members from Lynn Camp Schools.
